Hey folks, the time has come: my Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Patreon is shutting down. There's a lot of reasons why, but first and foremost: it is no longer the means to tell the stories that I want to.
Above all things, I enjoy being a storyteller. Being a gamemaster is just one of the many ways to do that, but I don't have room in my days anymore for a rules-heavy system like the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game or other d20 derivatives. I have always said that time is the most precious resource that we have, and no matter how much we try, we have to choose what to do with the time that is given to us.
That being said, I'm not going to stop telling the story of the City. I have always loved being a world builder, and mechanics have never mattered to me as much as the setting did. The City and its inhabitants will live on, but I will be using more narrative-focused systems to describe the people and the world of the City. (Yes, this FINALLY means that you will be getting more info on the World). Doing purely writing and mechanics was more taxing on my energy and creativity than I thought, and one of the many reasons that you've seen nothing from me in the last seven months on this Patreon was the fact that the weight of having to do allllllll the steps necessary was...well let's say not great for my brain. Being one of those people that can do a lot of things and has a modicum of skill at them, I often run into the problem of "BUT I WANNA DO IT ALL." Unfortunately, that's not a healthy approach, and while I CAN do it all, I need to measure out in doses what gets more of my attention.
Roughly this is going to translate to: more art, less mechanics and fiddly bits.
The City has always been one part of an overarching structure that I have in my head for many of my personal projects that I want to do: there is the World That Was, the World That Is, the World That Died, and the World That Is To Be. Ananke is the World That Is, and is the fantasy setting that the City lives within. All the Worlds are linked together, and yes, I have plans and media venues for ALL of them: comics and graphic novels, visual story games, setting books. (Are you noticing the art-focused trend here? :P)
Thank you for all of your support over the last couple of years—it's been a real honor and a treat, and I hope to see your support in my other venues as well. If you want to continue supporting me on Patreon, you can use my other Patreon account or you can support me directly on my website .
